“Take The Walk: A journey to awareness, to action, and to hope.”

About a month ago Hanson was in town for a concert.  The last few years they’ve been touring, Isaac, Taylor and Zac have been doing something quite different than most bands.  Before each concert they take a 1 mile walk to encourage young people to take a stand and make a difference in the world.  For each person who walks with them, they will donate $1 to one of five organizations that are working to better the lives of those in need in Africa. The options to donate to are Text Message credits for Healthcare, Fighting AIDS with Music, Donating a pair of Tom’s Shoes, Building Schools, or Drilling Wells for clean water.  It’s awesome to see well-known musicians helping to make a difference in the lives of people on the other side of the world.  And just think of what we all could do if we just gave up $1…pretty amazing! Anyway, check out some pictures from the walk…

These are my friends Jadah & LuRae who joined me on the walk during this tour stop.  (I’m not sure who that guy is in the pink sweatshirt, hmmm, kind of different.)

Half way through the walk we stopped and Taylor talked about taking action and making a difference.

You might have noticed Hanson and other walkers are barefoot.  The guys encouraged us to walk barefoot to literally “walk in someone else’s (lack of) shoes”.  There are many people in Africa who don’t have the basic comfort of shoes.

My friend Nikki went to South Africa for school.  She was able to discuss her experience there with both Isaac and Zac who have also been to Africa multiple times.

If you are interested in learning more about what these guys are doing, I really (for real!) encourage you to check out their website www.takethewalk.net. There you can find out about what they are doing to take action and about all the organizations they are involved with.  Let’s all get our minds set on making a change in this world.  It starts with each one of us, if we don’t do it, who will?
